Asia Pacific Academy of Business in Society (APABIS)

Global issues that threaten our social, cultural, environmental and economic sustainability are today widely recognised as being of urgent concern. These issues include, amongst many others, economic equity, especially in relation to global trade and the tensions between national, regional and global interests; global health; climate change; and the scarcity of natural resources. While many individuals and organisations from within a range of sectors are working to find solutions, the most effective and sustainable results come from collaborative efforts.

Based on the very successful model of the European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS), APABIS has a vision of bringing together businesses, academia, governments, NGOs and other organisational networks to work together towards a sustainable future for the Asia Pacific region.

APABIS provides a platform from which business, NGOs, academia and governments and other organisational networks can work collaboratively toward the understanding and establishment of a sustainable role for business in societies of the Asia Pacific region. We believe that full and constructive engagement with the welfare of the communities it serves is the route to a successful business.

  • APABIS aims to coordinate research and practice collaboration throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
  • APABIS seeks to build strong research teams in order to attract external funding for practice-relevant research and capacity building in the broad area of business in society.
  • APABIS promotes the integration of issues of sustainability into business school curricula.
  • Through regular open forms and other targeted interactions, APABIS fosters structured network building, shared understandings, and collaboration for action between business, NGOs, academia and government to strengthen the effectiveness of both the group and individual sectors.
  • APABIS will foster training programs in sustainable development relevant to the region.
  • While maintaining strong regional relevance, APABIS will also draw on its strong links to European and US networks.
  • APABIS will evolve according to the conditions and needs of the Asia Pacific region.
