Dr Judy Motion was formerly Professor of Communication in the Department of Management Communication at the University of Waikato. Judy originally led this FRST funded research project investigating sustainable biotechnology.

Judy is now at the University of Wollongong and has taught and researched at several universities in Australasia. Her research agenda has been to develop an understanding of the socio-cultural and political impacts of communication strategies and practices drawing upon cultural theories of discourse. More recently, her work examines the implications of public perceptions on biotechnology for public policy and science organisations.

Judy is the Australasian associate editor of the Journal of Communication Management and a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Strategic Communication, Journal of Public Affairs, the Australian Journal of Communication and PRism. She has published extensively in numerous journals including Public Relations Review, Media Culture & Society, Journal of Communication Management, Political Communication, European Journal of Marketing, the Australian Journal of Communication and the Journal of Public Relations Research.
