  Public Understandings of Biotechnology

This project is a longitudinal study of community and consumer perceptions of biotechnology (including Maori and Pacific Island stakeholders). This research involves an extensive programme of focus groups with a range of people in the community to investigate public perspectives on a range of biotechnologies and the role of cultural, moral, ethical and religious values in informing these perspectives.

The focus groups are based around discussion of a set of scenarios involving different potential future applications of biotechnology, including food, health and the environment. A key concern this project is to assess the findings in relation to implications for future dialogue frameworks and public participation opportunities.
