NZICA
Within the degrees listed below, students may undertake a course of study that will meet all the academic requirements entitling them to apply for provisional membership (CA) to the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA). CA membership is the professional qualification that is recognised in New Zealand and overseas.
The NZICA recognises the importance of a broad education and hands-on experience for all students, and has commended these degree programmes. NZICA requires four years (or equivalent) full-time study at a recognised tertiary institution, including the completion of an approved degree course. If you choose to take the CA track within the BMS, you must satisfy both the degree regulations as well as the additional requirements specified by the NZICA. The following programmes have been approved.
- The Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS)
- The Bachelor of Management Studies (Honours) (Accounting)
- The Master of Management Studies (Accounting)
- The conjoint LLB/BMS degree
- The Bachelor of Business Analysis/Financial (Honours)
- The Bachelor of Business Analysis/Financial and Graduate Diploma
You are advised to follow the NZICA and degree requirements for the year in which you completed your first degree level accounting paper. There are slight changes from year-to-year, and most students are best served if their programme is consistent with the requirements that were in place in their first year of university study.
From 2001 liberal papers have to be included as part of the NZICA requirements. Liberal papers are normally non-accounting and non-business but also include certain management communication and tourism management papers.
If you require assistance with planning a programme to meet NZICA requirements within any of the above degrees, please see one of the following departmental advisors during their office hours posted on their office doors:
| Howard Davey | MSB3.14 | ext.4441 |
| Mary Low | MSB3.38L | ext.8746 |
NZICA requirements follow for those students who commenced their NZICA study in the year:
| 2009 | 2008 | 2007 |
| 2006 | 2005 | 2004 |
| 2003 | 2002 | 2001 |
For those students who commenced their university study prior to 2001, please consult an advisor in the Department of Accounting .
