What is the Case Competition?

The Case Competition was introduced in 1996, and it is a special feature of the third year Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) core paper in Strategic Management, STMG391. All of the study teams in the class analyse a detailed case, write a report and do a presentation of their recommended strategy for the company, as part of their coursework. Four teams are then chosen as finalists for the WMS Case Competition.

This is a big event for the Waikato Management School. Held in the PriceWaterhouseCoopers lecture theatre, with friends, family, staff and invited guests from the business community listening intently, each team makes a 10 minute presentation. They have 10 minutes answering questions from the panel of external judges which includes senior strategists and industry experts.

The judges choose the winning team based on their own assessment criteria; the written reports and presentations are given a 50:50 weighting.

At the end of the evening, all of the finalists are presented with a certificate in recognition of their outstanding achievement and the winning team received $2500 from our A Semester sponsors TELECOM.
