Overseas Study

The Hospitality Management Programme

Academic Linkages and opportunities for students in the Department of Tourism Management.

The Department has agreements with academic institutions in South Korea and links with other organisations whereby students might be able to take advantage of these for studying abroad and gaining credit for their University of Waikato degree.

Tourism Research – University of Woosong, South Korea

The Department has a Memorandum of Association with Woosong University and it is possible for one or two of our students on post graduate or honours degree programme to spend periods of 6 to 12 months at Woosong University in the Graduate School of Trade and Tourism Management.  The financial arrangements will be that Woosong will provide student accommodation and the students can teach English as a Foreign Language to Korean students, thereby earning monies to fund their stay.  The student can then undertake research in issues of tourism and supervision will be provided by Professor Hochan Jang, (who studied at Texas A & M university for his doctorate), and Professor Chris Ryan.  The University of Waikato will introduce the student to techniques of teaching English through its International Language Institute.  This position will be suitable for students completing a Master's degree with a 3 or 4 paper research topic, a M.Phil degree, or possibly for some honours students prepared to perhaps extend their study period in order to obtain this unique experience.  Please contact Chris Ryan – caryan@waikato.ac.nz
