NZ Business Benchmarking Survey

Accountants in Public Practice can register at any time to begin accessing benchmarking statistics for their clients via the benchmarking software by submitting client data to the survey.

Submitting the minimum number of 2011 year-end clients we designate by March 2012 will qualify your practice for a free copy of the 2011 publication. Who can Participate in the Survey?

Accountants in public practice can participate in the survey and receive:

Electronic access to the most up-to-date benchmarks, in the form of Client Reports
Access to our Participants Website info and resources at www.Management.ac.nz/mrc/nzbbs
The annual benchmarking publication (hardbound copy of all classifications reported)

Methods of Participation:

MYOB Accountants Office users enjoy the convenience of automated and integrated client submissions and online reporting. The information required for the survey is able to be extracted from the client's General Ledger with only staff numbers and years in business needing to be entered to complete the survey. This is submitted to The University of Waikato's secure site with client comparison reports returned electronically.

All Other Accounting Software users, including APS, will be provided with the Waikato Benchmarking online submission and automated reporting program. The program enables client data to be entered or imported, submitted, saved and updated and it also generates client reports with the most up-to-date industry benchmarks returned electronically from The University of Waikato.

Survey and Reporting Format are ongoing rather than annual, although we still produce our annual publication of results around May/June each year. Now participants can submit client data to The University of Waikato NZ Business Benchmarking Survey and create comparison reports using the software as financial year end data becomes available throughout the year. Benchmarks are made available electronically via preliminary reports and updated as sample sizes allow - leading up to the final statistics being published each year.

Statistics from past surveys back to 2008 are also accessible for client comparison reports through both MYOB Accountants Office and the Waikato Benchmarking Program.

Business Classifications have been expanded through the integration of our NZ Business Benchmarking classifications with the ANZSIC 2006 structure. Within this structure, custom class reports and summary level industry reports are also returned where available.

Data submission targets, aimed at increasing the sample sizes of industry classifications and expanding the array of classifications reported, are set for each participating firm. Firms meeting their targets by March 2012 will receive a free copy of the next NZ Business Benchmarking publication.

Confidentiality of the data is maintained by utilising a coding system. All information is pre-coded by accounting firms prior to being sent to The University of Waikato. Staff view and analyse data based on code number only and have no access to an organisation's name or other identification details.
