Social Enterprise Studies

The changing boundaries of responsibilities between the community, public and market sectors link this field of scholarship to the Waikato Management School's leadership in the focus on 'sustainability in a connected world'.

Our papers offer opportunities to develop a critical awareness of the scope of social enterprise organizations in a modern western society.  Management of Not for Profit Organisations

Examples of enterprises that are of interest to use are those committed to:

  • social, political, cultural, educational, religious or spiritual enhancement
  • environmental restoration
  • the promotion of arts, leisure and fun
  • the creation of employment and careers opportunities
  • international networking, citizen awareness and so on

These organisations and their networks may be small and local, or national or international in their scope. Common to them all is their desire to make a difference in society. Managing their aspirations and their resources wisely requires insight, skill, and commitment. Our research and teaching agenda seeks to contribute to this work.

Associated topics that have scope for development in this programme of study include Corporate Social Responsibility and the Management of Not-for-Profit Organization.
