Institute for Business Research

Located in Waikato Management School, the Institute for Business Research (IBR) draws on cutting edge research by internationally recognised experts in their fields.  At the Institute for Business Research, the staff have a wealth of expertise in areas ranging from innovation to economic impact analysis. They work with industry, government agencies and other organisations to enhance productivity and contribute to sustainable business.

Business Relevance

The Institue is home to the Management Research Centre (MRC) Waikato Management School's commerical consultancy arm.

Over the 30 years it has been in operation, the MRC has forged a strong link between the University and the business community through the practical business services offered.

The MRC provides research and information services to professional, state and business organisations throughout New Zealand.  The Centre carries out finanical benchmarking and business performance comparison surveys for a wide range of industry groups in New Zealand.  The annual NZ Business Benchmarking Survey, run for over 28 years, is the MRC's flagship service.  The service reports finanical benchmarks for over 330 business categories and is recognised by business practitioners and industry commentators as the accepted standard for benchmarking SMEs in New Zealand.

In addition, MRC provides client newsletter services for accounting and law firms, and manages small research contracts for academic staff carrying out projects for government departments, local government, crown research institutes and private sector companies.

IBR expertise

The Institute offers significant expertise in economic impact analysis, agribusiness, financial benchmarking, supply chain management and tourism research. It also has research strengths in business performance, innovation and the business of health.
