Where do I start?

A minimum of 18 papers (including the compulsory papers) must be completed before students can begin their 499/599 Report of an Investigation (although a 499/599 proposal may be submitted at the beginning of the B Semester of the third year, in anticipation of completing the required number of papers).

o  Important Dates

You can start your 499/599 Report of an Investigation at any time between January and November but should be aware of individual Departments limitations on this arrangement. You are allowed six months, from the start date, in which to complete your 499/599 Report of an Investigation. If you are looking to start your 499/599 Report of an Investigation over summer, you should begin the process of seeking a sponsor/project well ahead of time, and no later than the mid-year teaching recess.

It is recommended that you consult with a Student Advisor in the Management Student Centre
well before the intended start date as there are deadline dates that must
be met.  StudyLink loans and allowance entitlements may be affected by
start and finish dates of a Report of an Investigation.
Early consultation with StudyLink is recommended.

o  Graduation

If you are intending to complete your 499/599 Report of an Investigation to meet graduation deadlines you should make this clear at the outset. Early consultation with a Student Advisor in the Management Student Centre is strongly recommended. It is also very important to make early contact with your Department Coordinator regarding the availability of supervision. Academic staff are encouraged to take leave during the January/February period so the number of supervisors available is limited.

o Information Brochures

The Student Investigations Information Board at the Management Student Centre has application forms and information brochures to assist you and your potential sponsors in starting your 499/599 Report. Final report forms and covers for handing in the report are available from the counter at MSC.

  o  Ethical Approval of Research

When you undertake research such as the 499/599 Report of an Investigation, which may involve human participants as the subject of enquiry, the University requires that the Waikato Management School Ethics Committee approve such research before proceeding. The guidelines and procedures for seeking approval are available on their home page under Student Procedures & Application Forms.
