Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Student Research Conference?
It is a full day conference that gives you a chance to share and present your research findings with other students and academic peers. There are usually three sessions running at any one time.

Why should I make a submission to present my paper/abstract?
It is a great opportunity to get feedback on your research projects and to create networks of academic peers. Students presenting at the conference usually come from around New Zealand, Australia and other overseas business schools. You may add your presenting experience onto your academic C.V. This conference provides a comfortable and supportive environment to help you develop your research.

Who can present at the conference?
We are calling for ALL postgraduate students to make a submission. Whether you are doing Honours, PgDip, Masters or a PhD, you are welcome to make a submission.

What do I submit?
You can make a full paper submission or an abstract submission for presentation. Your research/intended research should come under one of the five meta-themes of the conference. Please see the call for papers for submission guidelines.

Full paper submission
If you have completed a research paper, you can submit the whole paper for judging. Full papers should also include an abstract or a brief summary. Full paper submissions are eligible to be judged for the 'Best Paper' award.

Abstract submission
If you are in the process of working on your research paper, you may submit an abstract that provides an overview of the research you are carrying out. Please see the call for papers for submission details. Although abstract submissions are not eligible for the 'Best Paper' award, ALL presentations are evaluated for the 'Best Presentation' award.

I haven't completed a research paper, can I still submit?
Yes! You can put together an abstract or summary of your intended research and submit this for presentation at the conference. All presentations (including those who submit a full paper or an abstract) are judged for the 'Best Presentation' Award.

What is the difference between a full paper submission and an abstract submission?
The full paper submissions get judged for the 'Best Paper' award before the conference and receive written feedback from reviewers. In addition, they are also eligible for the 'Best Presentation' award. Abstract submissions allow presenters to make an oral presentation at the conference. These students only compete for the 'Best Presentation' award, judged during the conference.

Where do I make my submission?
Email your full paper and summary/ or an abstract to: studentconf@waikato.ac.nz . Please check the call for papers for submission requirements, such as formatting and the research themes.

Can I present a group research paper?
You may. You must make it clear that the paper is a group effort if you intend on presenting on behalf of your group. If you are presenting together, than all members of your group must register for the conference.

Are prizes on offer?
Yes! There are two main prizes: The Best Paper prize of $1000 and The Best Presentation Prize of $500.
